steno-s is a brand new hard-disk audio recording software package, allowing the recording and playback of meetings and discussions using a standard Windows® PC. Featuring a straight-forward and simple-to-use interface, navigation of the software is quick and easy, permitting the set-up and recording of meetings in a matter of minutes.

In today’s busy climate, digital storage and retrieval of information, regardless of type, is fast becoming essential for everyone. When it comes to agenda preparation and the minute-taking of meetings or discussions, having access to a convenient electronic-format solution to cope with this can help to speed up the entire process. steno-s has been introduced as a tool for exactly this purpose. It is available in two versions – Pro and Conference – and is designed to meet all of the demands of audio hard-disk recording, logging and filing of small discussions or large meetings alike.


As well as recording the audio, steno-s allows the inputting and placing of text markers into the software, alongside the audio. This enables the use to refer back to specific points of the meeting quickly and easily.

Once the meeting is recorded and marked, steno-s then enables the user to quickly and easily burn the file onto a CD-ROM or save it to a company network file.

Phases of a Meeting


Preparation
Before the meeting, the agenda and / or a list of participants is written using Microsoft Word®.

The agenda can then be copied and pasted from Microsoft Word® into steno-s and its contents used as prepared markers during the meeting. Each marker can include specific contents: text, an application file (PowerPoint®, Excel®, Word® etc.) or a link to another file.


Discussion and placing of markers
During the discussion or meeting, as the items of the agenda are dealt with, various topics will be discussed, decisions and suggestions will be made and questions will be asked, with everything being able to be logged and highlighted with markers. Each marker can then be used to identify a particular moment in the audio recording.


Minute-taking
steno-s can be integrated into Microsoft Word® to facilitate typing up of the minutes. All markers placed in the recording can be imported from steno-s directly. By selecting the appropriate buttons it is possible to start or stop the recording, go forwards or backwards or select individual markers in the recording directly. The optional STA 44 foot switches can be configured with steno-s and are suitable to control the playback of the recorded meeting. As steno-s makes use of popular stenography protocols, secretaries or typists can work intuitively.


Filing
When the meeting is over, the recording can be stopped and the file burned onto a CD-ROM or placed onto a company network. All of the participants of the meeting can immediately receive a copy of the CD for future reference.

Depending on the chosen sample rate (high/low) or audio compression factor, audio recordings of up to 30 hours (including annotation) will fit onto a standard 700 MB CD-R. It is also possible to include PowerPoint® presentations, as well as other Word® or Excel® documents used in the recording, on the CD.

In this way, it is now possible to keep a complete digital archive of all meetings recorded using the steno-s software.
